Kidnappers who demanded N50million ransom paraded

 

EBONYI State police command, weekend, paraded three persons suspected to have kidnapped Afikpo Zonal Manager of the Nigerian Breweries Limited, Kehinde Baruwa.

The victim was kidnapped at the entrance to his street, off Ndibe Beach road in Afikpo North Local Government Area.

The suspects include: Gabriel Ibiam Otta from Afikpo, Tochukwu Okezie from Ubakala Abia State and Emeka Samson, an Okada rider whose motorcycle was used to perpetrate the heinous crime.

Our reporter learned that one of the suspects, who went to collect ransom for the release of the victim, was killed by the police and the money recovered.

Briefing newsmen at the Command’s headquarters in Abakaliki, the Commissioner of Police, CP Peace Abdalah said the suspects had demanded N50million ransom from Baruwa’s wife for the release of the victim which they later reduced to N300,000 during negotiation.

According to her, at the point of collection of the ransom from the victim’s family around Afikpo Government Secondary School, the anti-kidnap team of the state Police Command arrested two members of the gang.

“The suspects volunteered vital information to the police which led to the successful rescue of the victim that was being held captive at Ubakala in Umuahia, Abia State.
