Biafran soldiers invaded Mid-West to liberate the region - BNYL

Leader of Biafra Nations Youth League (BNYL), Comrade Prince Obuka, has reacted to Tuesday’s declaration by the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILT) disassociating the Itsekiri from the Biafra independence movement, blaming Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) for the development.

“We are aware that Oodua Peoples Congress OPC are eying Warri and has been inciting some ignorant Itsekiris against other inhabitants of Warri,” Comrade Obuka said in a statement signed by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Aghaulor Godspower.

Comrade Obuka joined issues with ILT over the issue of how Biafran soldiers invaded the old Mid-West during the Nigeria-Biafra War of 1967-70.

“Biafran soldiers invaded Mid-West to liberate the region and it was for the good of our people classified as Mid-West Nigerians whereas the original region of Biafra starts from the Focardos

River connected to the Niger River (The Longest Biafran River),” Comrade Obuka said.

He accused accused ILT Chairman, Pa Johnson Ayomike, of being one of those inciting conflict in Warri, especially between the Ijaw ethnic group and Itsekiri people, over who owns Warri.

“We know Pa Johnson to be one of those inciting conflict in Warri over who owns that area; he doesn’t have the qualifications to represent the people of Itsekiri,” Obuka said.

The BNYL President restated the group’s commitment to carry “various ethnic groups of Biafran origin along in the Biafran movement,” even as he advised Pa Johnson
