THE Executive Director of Women Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Mrs. Bisi Olateru-Olagbegi, is dead.
The 62-year-old Olateru-Olagbegi, who was a member of the National Conference in Abuja, died on Thursday while being rushed to the hospital following the relapse of her illness at her residence.
Olateru-Olagbegi, whose NGO has been engaged in various programs and activities for the enforcement of the rights of women and children particularly the girl-child in Nigeria since its inception in 1995, had been battling with cancer, with a recent treatment in the United States of America.
Sources told GatewayMail that sympathizers had besieged her residence at Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos to pay condolence visit.
Her remains, it was further learnt, have been deposited at the hospital morgue, while a date for her burial would be announced later after meeting by family members.
