Kidnappers of Bayelsa Commissioner Demand Ransom of N40 Million

A N40 million ransom has been pegged for the release of a Bayelsa State Government official abducted a few days ago.

According to family sources, the kidnappers of the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Local Government, Madam Serefina Otazi, have demanded a ransom of N40 million.

Otazi was abducted at gun point on December 20 in Otuoke on her way to a funeral in Ewoi Community in Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA).

Family member Endurance Frank confirmed in a telephone interview with Saharareporters on Tuesday that the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded N40 million to set the victim free.

Frank said that the family was relieved to hear from Otazi and appealed to the kidnappers to free her unconditionally.

Mrs. Otazi previously served as the Commissioner for Women Affairs and the acting Chairman of Ogbia LGA.
