The independent National Regulatory Authority for the telecoms in Nigeria, NCC, has advised Nigerians to desist from carrying out financial transactions and sharing sensitive information on public WiFi.
The regulatory body warned that doing so exposes customers' data to Internet fraudsters who can easily access it through public WiFi and steal from them. This information was disclosed recently by the NCC via a text message that was sent to the subscribers' phone numbers.

The NCC also warned the subscribers against responding to messages and
calls asking for their identifiable information like BVN, card details, NIN, One Time Password (OTP), PIN, and Login details.
“DO NOT respond to messages/calls asking for your Personal Identifiable Information: BVN, Card Info, NIN, OTP, PIN, Login Info.”
