The Restoration Of Mobile Network By El-Rufai Amidst Insecurity Might Cause More Harm Than Good

Reports from various sources has confirmed the restoration of telecom service by the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai. This announcement was made by the state's Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan. The Commissioner on behalf of the state government apologized for the shut down of mobile networks, which lasted for over a month.

Though the news of the restoration of mobile networks will bring joy to residents in areas that were cut off, however, It might cause more harm than good to the entire state.

It should be noted that the activities of bandits in the state have been a cause for concern to residents and motorists. Recent events that occurred along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway showed that bandits are having a field day - several persons have been abducted while a prominent politician from Zamfara state lost his life in the hands of these evil men along this route. Additionally, reports have revealed the presence of Boko Haram members in the state.

With the recent happenings in some parts of Kaduna state, a total restoration of telecom service is not a good move, as it will allow bandits and their cohorts to communicate and cause more havoc. It should be noted that the military and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed to tackle the insecurity situation along Kaduna-Abuja Highway, however, the presence of mobile networks might affect their mission.

Instead of a total restoration of mobile networks, trouble spots in Chikun and Birnin Gwari local government areas should be cut off.
