Paige reveals how WWE fans helped her overcome sex tape ordeal, 'popping' drugs tests and breaking her neck

The comedy movie about the first NXT Women's and former Divas Champion is scheduled for release in America on March 1 next year.

However, in an exclusive chat with Mirror Sport, the former grappler revealed she is also set to appear in a new WWE Network special.

Cameras followed Paige for WWE Chronicles, the documentary series which previously featured Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe.

Paige, who suffered the neck injury in December, also discusses her retirement, which she announced on the Raw after WrestleMania in April.

And she revealed how in both Total Divas and WWE Chronicles she wanted to be "very open" about her battle to overcome adversity.

Paige is now general manager of SmackDown LIVE

When did filming start for the new series of Total Divas and what period of time will it cover?

So the series comes out Wednesday [in the U.S.] it officially premieres on Wednesday, and it took about two months of our lives put into it. It was really great, it was filming at SmackDown, at Raw, at pay-per-views, WrestleMania, SummerSlam... we filmed all through it, then they came home with us too, so we would wake up with the cameras there. It did take up a lot of our lives but we had so much fun doing it.

This season, I feel like - I know we say this every season - it just gets better and better. I'm back, to cause trouble! It's just going to be incredible, I can't wait for you guys to see it. In England I think it comes out on September 23.

The cameras were rolling then around the time you announced your retirement - they will have captured what must have been a really emotional time for you. Your personal story this season should be fascinating.

Yeah. You hear a bunch of my stories, the year and a half I took out, just everything. All the trouble I got myself into... I was just very open about everything. I was very open with the taped sex that unfortunately got leaked, the popping [failing] of drug tests, I was just very open about everything because I want people to learn from my mistakes, you know?

Obviously they get to see stuff like my neck injury, my emotions becoming general manager, it just has so much. I have so much to share with you guys and again you just see a different side of me, you get to see Saraya, more than you get to see Paige.

Paige says an emotional goodbye before she retires from WWE

I guess it will be emotional for you watching these episodes back for the first time too

Oh yeah, it's super emotional, especially because there is this guy called Joey, who does all the Chronicles on the WWE Network, I was the first one to have a Chronicle, but it's yet to be released because they were just going to wait for the movie to come out or whatever.

I was the first one to have a Chronicle and it shows me the first day I come back in WWE, walking into the building, seeing everyone for the first time, then literally wrestling every single week, having my singles match with Sasha, doing this, doing that, then it shows me breaking my neck, pretty much.

Then he comes with me to the doctors and it shows the doctor telling me I can't wrestle anymore. Then it shows me just being happy now I'm general manager.

I can't wait for that to come out - if it does come out, who knows? I can't wait for that to come out because it's beautiful. That just made me cry watching it. It breaks my heart.

I sometimes feel like 'I'm okay and I can get through this' but then I will watch that or I will watch Total Divas, and it reminds me I can't wrestle anymore and it does get to me.

First and foremost, that was always my passion, I wanted to wrestle, but unfortunately it took me down a road that I can't do that anymore.

Paige exits Raw after announcing the shock news of her retirement

The person who helped me with that too was [retired former WWE Champion] Edge, because he was like 'I promise you...' he told me the day I was about to retire, he pulled me to one side because he had sort of the same thing - spinal stenosis - he told me 'I promise you after you make this retirement speech you will have so much weight off your shoulders and you will feel so much better'.

And I did, it did make me feel better. But he was like 'you'll also constantly be reminded of it and you will be upset, but you will be in a better place once you say goodbye'. And he was right. I do feel in a good place, but sometimes it can get me down, you know?

Absolutely. But like you say there, you have been through all of this and come out the other side and you're now in this position as SmackDown general manager. The way you keep bouncing back and fighting back, refusing to accept the cards you have been dealt, I think inspires a lot of people as well.

Thank you. Yeah I feel it definitely helped a lot and the people who kind of got me out of my rut - I was at rock bottom for a year and a half - and the people who got me out of my rut were my fans. They were just like 'I know you can get out of this, you're stronger than what you feel right now, I know you can make a comeback' and it just inspired me like 'you're right, why do I feel like I'm giving up right now?'

It just motivated me beyond... it motivated me more so than I've ever been in my life. Especially when my neck issues came around and I couldn't wrestle anymore, I was like 'okay, this isn't the end of me, this is the start of something new, this is a different chapter of my story'. I just never wanted to give up.
