APC women hail Ikeazor for winning senatorial ticket

THE women wing of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended Sharon Ikeazor for her emergence as the senatorial candidate of the party for the rerun Anambra Central Senatorial election, saying that her emergence is a boost to women participation in politics.

Conveying the commendation on behalf of the women, the Enugu State Women leader of the party, Lolo Queen Nwankwo, said the victory of the former Interim National Women Leader, Ms Ikeazor in the senatorial primaries marks a new dawn for women in the party in Nigeria and South-East in particular.

While urging all women in Anambra Central to come out en masse and vote for Ikeazor at the election, Nwankwo noted that “her uncommon advantage is that she is one of those who packaged the APC”, adding that she would automatically enjoy the privileges of membership of the APC elite senate caucus.

“The APC Senate Caucus is the engine room of the senate; it is the anchor and liaison between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate. We regret that our revered Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a member, so Ikeazor as senator will fill this painful void,” said the women leader.

Nwankwo expressed the hope that as senator, “Ikeazor would use her membership of the APC Senate Caucus to facilitate the dream of the entire people of South-East for the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge, fixing of the dilapidated federal roads in the South East, as well as revamping of abundant Enugu coal deposits and other employment generation projects.”

The women also commended Senator Uche Ekwunife for her decision to abide by the party’s resolution pointing out that she has by that singular disposition paved the way for genuine reconciliation and unity among all political tendencies in the senatorial zone, Anambra and Southeast.

Nwankwo warned the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone not to make the mistake of electing a noise maker or lone-ranger for the senate seat, noting that since a tree cannot make a forest, this is a time to collaborate with the ruling party to make a change in the life of the people.

While recalling Ikeazor’s consistency in character and political experience spanning her days in the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), the women noted that she was a key player in the merger that produced the APC.

“Ikeazor’s ability or capacity to deliver is not in doubt,” Nwanwko added, “her emergence is an advantage to the womenfolk because the experience she garnered as a member of civil society organizations and Interim National Women Leader of APC, would serve as a launch pad for her to champion the course of women in Anambra Central and the country in general.”
