Vicious, Wicked and Reckless': Osinbajo Thinks Fani-Kayode Deserves A Trip To The Courts

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has threatened to institute legal action against the spokesperson for the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, for defamation of his person.

Fani-Kayode had recently alleged that Osinbajo had taken a secret oath with National leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, to step aside for him as the Vice President after six months in office, provided that the opposition party won the presidential election.

In the statement titled, “APC is selling a dummy to the whole world; Tinubu is the real candidate,” the former aviation minister stated that Osinbajo was Tinubu’s stooge.

In a pre-litigation letter addressed to Fani-Kayode on Tuesday, March 3, Osinbajo requested that he retract the defamatory statement within seven days or get ready  for litigation.

In the letter written on his behalf by his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), he also implored Fani-Kayode to tender a public apology to him which should be aired on four television stations and published in four national newspapers as well as payment of N2bn for damages already done to his person.

Falana said Fani-Kayode’s statement was false and specifically targeted at impugning Osinbajo’s character and reduce his estimation of right thinking members of the public.

The statement was described as vicious, wicked and reckless, as well as being inconsistent with Osinbajo’s faith, role and ethics as a pastor, a professor of Law and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

While urging Fani-Kayode to retract the statement with a public apology, Falana stated: “we shall proceed with our client’s instruction to seek appropriate legal remedies for your publication and dissemination of defamatory statements.”
