Delicate documents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are reported to be one of several items to have been recovered in the home of Air Commodore Umar Muhammed (rtd).
Mr Muhammed a key ally of Mr Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, the acting chair of the anti-corruption agency was detained by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) for money laundering and being in possession of illegal firearms, last month.
Items that were seized during a raid that took place in his Maitama home on June 19, 2016 includes 13 luxury cars – One Range Rover, two Rolls Royce, two Bentleys, one BMW 7-series, one Mercedes 5550, one Lexus Sports, one Audi R8 and one Porsche Panamera GTs.
Other materials recovered from the arrested Air Commodore are papers containing details of disbursements made to the Nigerian armed forces amongst other sensitive classified information from the President’s Office and panel set up to probe arms procurement between 2007 and 2015.
The retired Air Force officer who remains in custody is alleged to have run a blackmailing and extortion cartel using the classified documents found in his home.
An EFCC source who did not want to be named as he has no permission to speak about the findings, questioned how such an important EFCC files had found its way into Mr Muhammed’s home, since “he has never worked at the agency before.”
Asserting that the files must have been “passed to Mr Muhammed by the Chief Operating Officer of the anti-graft agency Mr Magu,” due to a cordial relationship beyond what ordinary Nigerians may see between both men.
Mr Muhammed owns several private jets which the EFCC acting chair is known to ferry about in, despite Mr Magu’ feigning statement of not knowing Mr Muhammed too well.
Speaking to Adenike Lucas, the EFCC source explained that: “around March 2016, Mr Magu flew on Mr Muhammed’s private jet to Kano State, where the EFCC has an Office.
“The trip which includes Mr Muhammed, Mr Magu’s sergeant officer, the Director of Finance and Accounts and the Director of Organisation Support of EFCC was monumental,” added the source.
A damming news report which accused Mr Magu of being connected to Mr Muhammed was recently published by a leading newspaper in Nigeria. The news story published by This Day claiming that Muhammed (rtd.) was a front for an EFFC official stopped short of mentioning Magu and the current National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno as the officials of the anti-graft agencies whom Mr. Muhammed was allegedly fronting for.
This allegation has since been debunked by Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s head of Media and Publicity.
In a statement issued by Uwujaren, Magu expressed that the act to link him to the arms fraud was corruption fighting back. He urged the Presidency to set up a high-powered inquiry to verify the claims of the report in view of the gravity of the issues.”
Recently, news surfaced online alleging that the Chief of Staff to the President Abba Kyari and Senator Bukola Saraki were trying to prevent the confirmation of Magu Click Here
According to this reliable source, the DSS has gathered indicting report against Mr Magu and Mr Muhammed which led to a media onslaught against DG DSS Lawal Musa Duara by a US based website, who are said to be in the pockets of the EFCC acting chair.
The unafraid whistle blower who has close links with Mr Magu is accusing “Mr Magu and the National Security Adviser Babagana Monguno of leaking information to Sahara Reporters.
The source thinks that “their sole intention is to damage the reputation of Lawal Daura and to make President Muhammadu Buhari, PMB believe that any attempt not to confirm Magu, will lead to a disaster.
“By bringing Senator Bukola Saraki into the matter, they aim to prove to PMB that Lawal Daura and Abba Kyari are working against the President,” he enthused further adding that the detractors with the help of Sahara Reporters want to “hoodwink the President into confirming Magu as the substantive EFCC chair.” On the 10th of this month, the PA to the President on New Media confirmed using his tweeter handle @BashirAhmaad, that “PMB has writtern the @NGRSenate seeking the confirmation of Ibarhim Magu as the substantive chairman of the EFCC.”
The DSS report which should be released shortly has left Mr Magu panicking, and why is Magu and his godfather hell bent as to why the arrest of the Air commodore, our source says”
“Are there issues they fear would be released against them by the DSS suspect? Discerning Nigerians must not be deceived by what they are made to see and believe,” he asked before calling support for the President from the public. He said: “sooner or later, the effort of the DG DSS will reveal more wonders.”
