The United State Secretary of States, John Kerry, on Tuesday, said his country will support the President Muhammadu Buhari’s-led Federal Government’s fight against corruption.
Speaking during a visit to the President at the State House, Abuja, Kerry commended Buhari’s courage in fighting corruption.
Explaining that the President inherited a “big problem,” the US Secretary of State said, “We applaud what you are doing. Corruption creates a ready-made playing field for recruiting extremists.
“You inherited a big problem, and we will support you in any way we can. We will work with you very closely. We don’t want to interfere, but will offer opportunities as you require.”
Kerry also pledged his country’s assistance in the area of humanitarian challenges in the north-east.
Disclosing that the US would get the UK, France, and others “to augment the support,” Kerry said, “Nigeria is priority for us.
“We won’t miss the opportunity to work together, because you are making significant progress.”
