The All Progressive Congress, (APC), and Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose yesterday locked horns over the recent theft of $50,000 (N25,000,000) in Ekiti Government House.
While the APC urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to urgently investigate the unwholesome development, Governor Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), said the anti-graft agency should indeed probe the theft.
He said that: “There is nothing bad in the APC asking the EFCC to probe the stolen money since the anti- graft agency can now investigate even missing under wears in individual homes.
“But the APC should also go further to ask the EFCC to investigate the N850 million SUBEB fund stolen by Fayemi and his seven thieves, the millions of naira spent on flowers that were never seen anywhere in Ado Ekiti and the billions of Naira looted from the State treasury when the party was in power.
“If money has been stolen by steward here in Ekiti, has it not happened elsewhere? What noise has been made? Discerning minds can even begin to think that the APC as a party knows what we don’t know concerning incessant stealing in the government house and the police must have to ask the likes of Taiwo Olatunbosun what they know about the $50,000 theft. This is because even before most occupants of the government house got to know about the theft, the APC was already insinuating about the stealing of N75m belonging to the governor.
“May be initially, the criminal working with the APC and its looting leaders did not give them the correct information about how much he stole.”
Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, debunked the report, saying it was a false alarm by the opposition APC to discredit the governor.
APC had said the anti-graft agency must fulfill its mandate of checking frauds and investigation of questionable sources of money among Nigerians whose lifestyles do not support their sources of income.
The party said that reports have been rife on social media on alleged stealing of $125,000 (N75m) involving a woman and some domestic aides of the governor.
