“Of Course You Are Not A Religious Bigot” || Igbos In 19 Northern States Throw Their Weight Behind Buhari

General Muhammadu Buhari received a boost from a section of the Igbo ethnic group as he looks to unseat incumbent President Jonathan this week. The Igbos have been favorably disposed to a Jonathan presidency and President Jonathan expectedly swept the Southeast votes the last time out. Pollsters have ceded the region to the ruling PDP ahead of the presidential vote yet again.

However, the Igbo Delegates Assembly; a socio-cultural organization has said Buhari is assured of their votes.

Speaking at the Buhari Campaign Organization office in Abuja, the President General of the group which consists of Igbos living in 19 northern States and Abuja, Sam Enyama, described Mr. Buhari as a man of impeccable character and urged people of the south east to downplay any religious and tribal sentiments in the coming polls and vote for him.

“We are here to support your aspiration to become the president of this country”, he said. “We know you, it is easier to work with you because of what you stand for. We are not ready to be plunged into another civil war and we are pleading with you to help us organize Nigeria again. We want discipline to reign again.

“We want to plead with you to help galvanize Nigeria once more, let the discipline rain again in Nigeria, let the polity be sensitized.

“A lot of people have complained that the issue about you is religion but we know you are not a religious bigot. You are a very firm, articulated officer of the Nigerian army. In 1983 when Nigeria was on the verge of collapse, you came in and rescued it”.

He added that: “We are here to assure you that the Igbos are behind you”.

In his response, Buhari assured the group that the APC will not let them down and thanked them for their support.
