PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has urged supporters of his People's Democratic Party (PDP) not to panic amidst the releasing of results from the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) indicating that it is on course to defeat the ruling party. 

On Saturday, Nigerian went to the polls to elect members of the House of Representatives, senators and a president and although official results are not yet out, the social media has been awash with all sorts of statistics. Both the PDP and the APC are claiming to have won the presidential elections, releasing figures to support their claims. 

However, yesterday, President Jonathan told PDP supporters not to be carried away by figured released by the APC showing it was sweeping the polls. Presidential spokesman Dr Reuben Abati, said the results published by the APC are fake and called on the PDP faithful not to be fooled by them, saying the only confirmed result so far was the one from Ekiti State. 

He expressed delight that President Jonathan won in the state and noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) had addressed the issue of the fake results. Inec chairman Professor Attahiru Jega has told the public to discard results from both parties, saying the only authentic ones are those published by the commission. 

Dr Abati said: “Our numerous supporters both home and abroad are reaching out to us and requesting that we should say something. Inec has already addressed the issue of viral opposition sponsored fake results that they should be ignored." 

Results are expected later during the week as voting continued in some parts of the country yesterday due to technical hiccups on Saturday. On April 11, the process will be completed when state governorship and house of assembly elections take place.
