The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said logistic difficulties was responsible for its inability to announce all the results of the presidential vote on Monday.
Speaking to Channels Television, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu, said getting the electoral commissioners from different States into Abuja at the same time, was the major hurdle.
“Remember that it is still a manual system we operate in Nigeria where the result sheets have to be physically brought from the different States by the resident electoral commissioners”, Idowu said.
He added that the resident electoral commissioners have to brave traveling logistics, lodging and all of that, but promised that the results would not be tampered with.
“It is still a very transparent process and I hope Nigerians will not want us to announce results without the result sheets”, he said.
The rest of the results are set to be announced on Tuesday (today) and Mr. Idowu said some of the resident electoral commissioners would join the procedure at the collation center in the course of the announcements, depending on their arrival times.
