Video: How MKO Abiola’s largest statue was unveiled

Many Nigerians, especially politicians, were today in a celebratory mood as both the Federal Government and some states in the country honoured Late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election.

On June 6, 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari posthumously honoured Abiola with Nigeria’s highest title, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR).

June 12 was declared as Democracy Day in Nigeria.

But, apart from Lagos State Government declaring a public holiday, it unveiled a statue in honour of the late MKO Abiola, now seen as a symbol of democracy.

The 46-feet statue stands at the MKO Abiola Garden in Alapere, Ketu.

Some dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode and wife, Bolanle, Deputy Governor, Dr. Ranti Adebule; MKO Abiola’s widow, Dr. Doyinsola Abiola;
