After reports filtered in yesterday that Niger State House of Assembly Speaker, Barrister Adamu Usman was impeached; the latest casualty to be kicked out has been witnessed in Ebonyi state.
According to a report published by This day, the Ebonyi state chapter of the All progressives Congress (APC), as a faction led by the deputy chairman, Pastor Eze Nwachukwu, has sacked the state chairman of the party, Ben Nwobashi, for an alleged embezzlement of over N216 million meant for the party’s campaigns.
The party, which has been entangled in a leadership tussle since its state congresses last year, also sacked Pastor Victor Elem (state Secretary); Alloy Nwibo (Treasurer); Ignatius Chima (Financial Secretary); Ernest Nwaeze (Welfare Secretary) and Anthony Eze (Assistant Secretary).
Following Nwobashi’s removal, the APC faction in accordance with Article 17 (vi) of the APC constitution (as amended) 2014 nominated the state deputy chairman, Eze, as the acting chairman.
It was gathered that since after the last congresses which produced three factional chairmen, the party has experienced series of clash among the stakeholders of the party purported to have been spearheaded by the former National chairman of the Defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr Ogbonnaya Onu and the 2015 APC governorship candidate in the state, Senator Julius Ucha.
