It appears APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has been rumoured to be nursing a presidential ambition in 2023 may have to device a better strategy to beat some cabals in his party who are against his purported ambition.
According to the Vanguard, some cabals who have the backing of some APC Governors are against the signing of Electoral bill into law by the President Muhammadu Buhari. They fear it will favour Tinubu to clinch the presidential ticket of the party if he decides to run, consequently, they are trying to mount pressure on the President to withhold assent to it.
Will Tinubu survive the plot by these cabals?
Well, President Buhari has the final say over the controversy surrounding the direct primaries clause in the Electoral Act. The bill has already been passed before him and I believe the president in his wisdom will make the best decision that will favour majority of Nigerians on the matter.
Also, even though the concerns of the cabals is the numerous grassroots support Tinubu will get if direct primary is used by the party, I am however of the opinion that Tinubu may still get enough support to make his purported presidential ambition scale through even if indirect primary is used.
This is because of his cordial relationship with many of the Governors on the platform of his party, who many believe has the power to influence delegates if indirect primary is adopted. Apart from the majority of the APC Governors in the Southwest, Tinubu also have a cordial relationship with some Northern Governors where majority of the delegates that will vote during the presidential primary of the APC will come from if indirect primary is used.
