APC Drags State Gov To EFCC

The All Progressives Congress, APC Transition Committee in Kaduna Start, has sent a defensive plea to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging plans by the outgoing Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, to steal N2.744 Billion SURE-P Fund.

The APC Committee raised the alarm following the attempt by the outgoing governor in a letter dated May 15, 2015, which was signed by Chairman of the Transition Committee, Alhaji Balarabe.

According to the Committee, EFCC should exercise its responsibility of preventing crime by investigating the last-minute looting of public assets. It also stated that the Kaduna State House of Assembly had earlier declined to appropriate the Sure-P fund in the 2015 budget and promptly removed it from the budget submitted by the 23 local government councils,

Lawal also claimed in the letter that, the outgoing governor has been putting the legislature under pressure to approve his utilisation of 50 per cent of the Sure-P fund for a road project, while the 23 local government councils would share the balance.

“Coming from a government whose tenure expires in less than two weeks, the intensity of the lobby for the money indicates a certain desperation that is clearly not in the public interest,”  Lawal said.

He requested the EFCC chairman to urgently investigate whether the Sure-P fund is still intact, or spent without appropriation.

Meanwhile, few weeks ago, the governor was said to have escaped the wrath of some irked graduate trainees, who were protesting the non-payment of their allowances for five months.
