Nyako returns to Nigeria following change of government

Former governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako, who was impeached by the state Assembly for gross financial fraud and declared wanted alongside his son for criminal conspiracy, stealing, fraud and money laundering has now returned to Nigeria after several months in Europe.

While in exile, Nyako still called the shots in Adamawa APC, with his preferred candidate Senator Jibrilla Bindow, winning both the APC primary and the general election.

Bindow has already appointed three key loyalists of Nyako amongst his early appointments as new governor of Adamawa.

All eyes are now on the EFCC to see if it will take action and prosecute Nyako for all the crimes he allegedly committed as governor or if he would have a soft landing now that his party is in power.

Nyako’s impeachment by the PDP dominated assembly in Adamawa came shortly after he wrote a blistering letter accusing the then President Goodluck Jonathan as being behind the Boko Haram attack and genocide against his people.

Senior APC chieftains received Nyako at the airport in Abuja when he arrived, and have continued to visit him at his Abuja residence.

Some of those who received the former governor were Senator-elect Binta Garba from Adamawa state, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa) and Danjuma Goje (Gombe). Even candidate for Senate president Bukola Saraki has gone to visit Nyako.
