Akeredolu Was A Weakling To Have Allowed His Wife, Betty Become ‘Her Excellency’ —Odebowale, Former Aide

During an interview with ObjectTV media on Saturday, Odebowale branded the office of the First Lady as undemocratic, adding that it should be abolished.

Dr Doyin Odebowale, a former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategies to the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, has described his former principal as a weakling for allowing his wife, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu to govern the state through the office of the First Lady.

During an interview with ObjectTV media on Saturday, Odebowale branded the office of the First Lady as undemocratic, adding that it should be abolished.

He said that if he had been in Akeredolu's position, he would not have allowed his wife to be involved in managing the affairs of the state.

He said, “Somebody who was not elected would now be Her Excellency. It is wrong and cannot be right. He was weakling, I would not have allowed it. We carried unnecessary burden over recklessness. What is the meaning of this nonsense? All these things which are not hiding is a lie. They said they were forging to insinuate Babajide and the mother, where are the documents? Who collected the money?”

Odebowale also said that he helped the state save some revenue by fishing out ghost workers in the state.

He continued: “I just told you what I was making for the state now. I was making money and they were spending it. Am I not entitled to steal part from what I made for them? When they were making N400,000 a month and I increased it. I blocked loopholes, they were listening to me, send it to them, let them controvert it and come back and give you specific. I made doctors to resign because they were collecting double salary.”

He added that despite obvious evidence indicting many civil servants in the state working as ghost workers, the Akeredolu government still failed to prosecute them.

“There is particular one who had left Ondo State since 2016 and went to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Teaching Hospital as a doctor, Akindojutemi, collecting double salaries, collecting promotions in two places. I discovered it and I stopped it.

“They did not prosecute him. These discordant elements covered him. Aketi’s sickness will make him escape now, I would have sent him to jail. Was Babajide the one collecting double salaries, people were retiring but wage bill was still going up. Health management board; many doctors were travelling abroad but the state was unable to employ because they were collecting double salary. Wickedness!”

SaharaReporters broke the news about Akeredolu’s death last Wednesday.

Akeredolu died at the age of 67 after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Last week, human rights activist and candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections, Omoyele Sowore said Nigerians should see the remains of Akeredolu to determine the period of his death.

Mr Sowore stated during a live interview session on Arise News TV that the body language of Akeredolu's wife and son indicated that they were not honest about the information they disclosed to the public regarding the late governor's time and location of death.

He added that the claim that the late governor died in Germany was untrue and it would be regarded as a plan set up by the governor’s family to syphon public funds.

He said, “This substantive governor visited the home of the late Governor Akeredolu today (Thursday). You see the demeanour of the wife and the contempt in the way he was looking at this governor who had just come to visit, you know that it was all manipulative and she’s acting all sad now.

“Some two days ago, the wife of the governor was in Ondo State, insulting everybody that they are bush people. A week ago, she met with some members of the House of Assembly. And now we’re finding out tonight that Akeredolu didn’t die in Germany.

“So they are all lying to the public that he died in Germany. Maybe they wanted to use that to take some more money out of the state. I don’t get it. Everything is a lie.

“Now we might have to demand to see Akeredolu’s body physically to be sure that he hasn’t died a long time ago and was buried before they came up to announce it.

“Because basically what these people did – the wife, his son and the political cabal in Ondo State – was just using his vulnerable condition to take out their greed on the state, 5 million people. They’re just taking out money, forging signatures.”
