Osun’s Social Democratic Party has threatened to publicly release details of what it alleges is the massive wealth amassed by Governor Rauf Aregbesola unless he declares his assets publicly and without delay.

The SDP described Aregbesola’s defence of how he spent billions in state funds as mere rhetoric, laughable and inconsistent with the facts (in its possession).

The party’s chairman, Mr. Ademola Ishola in a speech during the party’s Performance Assessment meeting held in Osogbo at the weekend, said what his party has dug up about Aregbesola’s wealth would simply stun Nigerians.

“Our party discovered that one of the areas where fraud was being perpetrated by Aregbesola’s government was through the consultants handling virtually all his projects.

“It is a shame that even if the governor wanted to buy toothpicks, it has to pass through consultants, some of who are his cronies.”

Ishola also alleged that the governor’s monthly N500 million in security ‘votes’ and the N32 million earmarked monthly for the governor’s wife feeding allowance were “worrisome.”

“For now, the governor had pocketed over N25 billion as security votes while about N1.7 billion had gone for food in his house from our meagre resources.”
