The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has described the emergence of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State as the Chairman Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum as a mark of failure and end of the road for the PDP in Nigeria.
In a press statement made available to journalists in Akure, the State capital, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ondo State Chapter, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya described Mimiko’s emergence as a mark of failure on the part of the PDP to have chosen ‘an underperformed, corrupt, mentally lazy and undemocratic Governor like Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to lead such a sensitive and important group like Governors’ Forum”
The party said ” It shows the PDP is lacking in men and women of proven integrity with high level of mental alertness to proactiveness, considering the enormous challenges facing our dear country, ranging from insecurity, insurgency, economic downturn, unemployment, poverty, corruption, among other vices, that the PDP had plugged the country into in their sixteen years of misrule.”
Omo’ba Adesanya said, “the APC recognises the role of a viable, proactive and constructive opposition in a democracy, but the present PDP formation and the leftovers cannot provide the needed opposition our country’s democracy requires at this crucial time.”
“Was Mr. Mimiko given the Chairmanship because of his illusionary achievements in Ondo State -failure to conduct local government election for almost seven (7) years; mismanagement and failure to account for the State funds and allocations; the moribund of almost all the institutions and parastatals in the State under his leadership; and the running of the State like an emperor? This is an end of the road for the Party (PDP).”
“It is now more imperative than ever, for all other mushroom political parties to come out of their shells to provide a formidable opposition for the betterment of the Nigerian people and in the interest of our hard earn democracy.”
“Although, with or without any viable and mentally alert proactive opposition, APC would deliver on its electoral promises and keep to every word of the Party’s manifesto,” the statement reads.
