Osun Assembly To Query Aregbesola Over Judge’s Impeachment Petition

Osun State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed receipt of a petition by a serving judge in the state, Justice Oloyede Folahanmi in which she called for impeachment of Governor Rauf Aregbesola over alleged mismanagement of the resources of the state.

Justice Oloyede in her petition also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate Aregbesola and others responsible for the economic woes of the state.

The state currently owes its workers six months salaries, a situation the governor blames on dwindling income from the federation account due to falling crude oil prices.

Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam told journalists that the House received Oloyede’s petition on Wednesday and that the legislature would write Governor Aregbesola to defend himself against the allegations. The speaker said: “Yes, we received the petition and we acknowledged it. But there is nothing we can do now because of the strike. Workers strike is affecting our sittings.

“We will send a copy of the petition to the governor for his defence. We will deliberate on it by the time the strike is over.”

Osun State House of Assembly which has 26 members is dominated by the members of the ruling All Progressives Congress who are 24 with only two members elected on the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party.
