A former President to meet a sitting one: Jonathan to meet Buhari

The Presidency has announced that President Muhammadu Buhari is ready to listen to his predecessor, former president, Goodluck Jonathan on how millions of dollars were allegedly diverted under the guise of arms procurement during his administration.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, during an interview with The PUNCH on Saturday.

The newspaper had quoted Adesina as saying that due to the President’s belief in decency and civility, he would not close the door on his predecessors if he should make moves to meet him so as to make clarification on the issue.

“A former President should always have access to a sitting one. It would be uncouth and indecent to shut out a former occupant of such lofty office. If some people did it to their predecessors in the past, it is not this President who believes in decency and civility.

“Yes, President Buhari will always grant audience to former President Jonathan, if there is any request for such. A rebuff does not come into the picture at all,” Adesina said.
