Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta doesn’t know why midfielder Declan Rice was arguing with defender Gabriel Magalhães but has offered a theory on what occurred.

Both players were locked in a heated discussion on the pitch at full-time after Arsenal’s 0-0 Premier League draw with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The result has all but ended Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title this season.

Arteta’s side is now 13 points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League table.

When asked in his post-match interview about Rice’s heated argument with Gabriel, Arteta said: “They are probably demanding [more from] each other.

“I really don’t know the topic that they discussed. I don’t know, I have not seen it.

“I walked to the referees and our supporters and didn’t see anything.”

Arsenal’s next fixture is against PSV in the Champions League on Tuesday.
