Former Senate President, David Mark, has called on the sons and daughters of Idoma to stand united against external threats, following the recent violence in Idoma land that has left hundreds dead and thousands displaced.
The OkpokpowuluK’Idoma made the call on Monday, April 21st, 2025, during the Idoma Nation Peace and Unity Symposium at the Ochidoma’s Palace in Otukpo.
Senator Mark, who was represented by Chief Ojotu Ojema, the member representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on the National Inland Waterways Authority, emphasized that unity is the key to protecting Idoma Kingdom from external forces.
He stated that only a united front could fend off the aggressors intent on seizing land from the people of Idoma.
“We must reach a point where an attack on Agatu is seen as an attack on Ado; an attack on Obi is seen as an attack on Ogbadibo; and an attack on Apa is seen as an attack on Ohimini. Only then can we effectively repel the external aggressors on a land-grabbing mission,” Mark asserted.
He expressed concern over the ongoing disrespect toward the Ochidoma’s stool on social media, urging the Idoma people to learn from how other ethnic groups, like the Yoruba, honor their paramount rulers.
Mark called on parents to instill in their children respect for traditional leaders and a sense of humility and unity.
During his remarks, Mark presented a motion for a Vote of Confidence in the leadership of the Ochidoma, HRM Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John.
The motion received overwhelming support, with a resounding “yes” echoing through the assembly, reaffirming the Idoma nation’s confidence in the Ochidoma’s leadership.
Senator Mark moved another motion for the Idoma people to unite in sharing ideas, resources, and technical expertise to push back the aggressors and protect their land.
This motion was also met with unanimous approval, with all present agreeing to work together for the peace and unity of Idoma land.
