The Nigeria Women’s Football League, NWFL has imposed a N1, 000, 000 fine on Heartland Queens following an assault on match officials during their home fixture against Remo Stars Ladies at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, on Wednesday.

Heartland Queens were held to a 1-1 draw by Remo Stars Ladies in the matchday 12 encounter.

NWFL took the decision after reviewing the report of the match officials and an investigation, which confirmed the unruly behaviour of individuals associated with the club.

The league body urged Heartland Queens to educate their officials and supporters on the importance of fair play and respect for match officials, noting that the sanction is intended to serve as a deterrent to future misconduct.

NWFL also warned that such offences could attract a ban of up to one year on the venue where the assault took place.

It’s the first time NWFL will clamp down on a club this season.
