The violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones was a reckless act that has been jointly condemned by allies, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Wednesday.
Rutte confirmed that the air defenses activated ensured the protection of NATO territory after numerous drones from Russia flew into Poland.
Allies responded to the incursion by scrambling jets, including Dutch F35s, Italian AWACS, Polish F16s, German Patriots, and NATO Multi Role Tanker Transport.
Expressing solidarity with Poland, NATO announced its preparedness to invest in its defense and ramp up defense production to guard member states.
”The violation is not an isolated incident,” Rutte asserted, assuring that the Supreme Allied Commander General Alexus Grynkewich is managing deterrence and defense along the eastern flank.
NATO further condemned Russia’s “dangerous war of aggression” against Ukraine and the continual targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure.
But Moscow denies the alleged intentional violation of the Polish airspace during its “combined precision strike” on the military infrastructure in Kiev.
The Russian government, in its rejoinder, repeated the Ministry of Defence’s affirmation that the ordered strike did not include any targets in Poland.
The range of the drones dispatched to Ukraine was below 700 kilometres, and therefore “overturns the myths Poland is spreading again to aggravate the Ukrainian crisis,” the Foreign Ministry said.
”NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte failed to provide any answer regarding any proof of “intent” behind that incident,” the statement noted.
Moscow, however, Russia indicated its readiness to hold consultations on the with the Polish Defence Ministry “despite the obvious inconsistency of Warsaw’s allegations.”
