Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

    1. The Independent National Electoral Commission says the failure of the new leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, to provide the report of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting that ratified its emergence is one of the reasons its recognition is delayed.

    2. At least 30 terrorists have been killed in a military air and ground operation at Dar-El-Jamal village in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. The operation, conducted on September 5, followed reports of heavy terrorist engagement against friendly forces, according to the spokesman of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, in a statement on Saturday, September 6.

    3. Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, on Saturday, visited Darajamal, a community in Bama, to condole with families of the 63 people who were killed by Boko Haram insurgents on Friday night. The victims comprised five soldiers and about 58 civilians.

    4. Member representing Kiru/Bebeji constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed shock over his expulsion from the New Nigerian People’s Party. The party had on Saturday, through its Kano state Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, announced Jibrin’s suspension over what it described as anti- party activities and failure to meet financial obligations.

    5. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed eight officials of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and abducted a Chinese expatriate in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area, LGA of the state. It was gathered that the assailants also injured four NSCDC officials and one civilian, who are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

    6. The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria on Saturday asked President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders to intervene in the dispute between the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Dangote Refinery. The Nigeria Labour Congress, also accused the Dangote refinery of anti-labour practices.

    7. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has activated plans to prevent the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in the country. The agency, in a public health advisory issued on Saturday, stated that it was working closely with relevant ministries, departments, agencies, and development partners to monitor disease occurrence and enhance the country’s level of preparedness.

    8. The District Head of Bagaji Odo in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, David Akpa, who was abducted last Monday, has regained freedom. This was disclosed in a statement by Gift Idoga, Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman of Omala LGA, Edibo Mark, on Saturday.

    9. Three persons have died in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Shiroro and Munya Local Government Areas of Niger, following lack of healthcare facilities and food. Mr Hussaini Alhassan, Desk Officer, Gwada IDPs camp, disclosed this in an interview with NAN on Saturday during the donation of N30 million worth of relief materials to the camps by the North South Power Foundation, NSPF.

    10. The Super Eagles defeated the Amavubi of Rwanda 1-0 in a tense 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Nigeria endured a difficult start as star striker Victor Osimhen was forced off with an early injury. The first half ended goalless despite the Eagles dominating possession.
