Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has described the appointment of women as vice chairmen in the local government areas as a litmus test in the state. .
Speaking after receiving the 25 chairmen-elect and their vice chairmen, all women, at the government house in Minna, the Governor said their performance would determine whether more women would be given leadership roles in the future.
Bago noted that women had played a significant role in oiling democracy through their votes and participation, and as such, deserved opportunities to contribute more to governance.
According to him, ” Most of the people who came out to vote were women. Women have been the ones oiling democracy, and as such, they need to be given the opportunity to participate.”
He encouraged them to be confident, supportive, and cooperative with their chairmen to ensure development in their various local government areas.
“You should not feel intimidated by men. Work together with your chairmen to deliver development to your local government areas, ” he advised
The Governor further promised to sustain his administration’s policy on gender inclusivity and provide opportunities for women to participate in governance.
