President Donald Trump on Saturday levied tariffs on eight European nations that have voiced their opposition to the United States’ control of Greenland.

Those affected are Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. Most are widely regarded as U.S. allies.

Trump stated that America has been subsidizing Denmark, Europe, and countries on other continents for many years by not charging them any form of remuneration.

“It’s time for Denmark to give back after centuries…World Peace is at stake!” the President wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The U.S. leader reiterated his comment about China and Russia wanting Greenland, declaring there’s not a thing that Denmark can do about it.

Trump vowed nobody would be allowed to touch the “sacred piece of land,” citing the national security of the United States and the world at large.

He criticized recent trips to Greenland by the leaders and officials of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK “for purposes unknown.”

Starting on February 1, 2026, the countries will be charged a 10% tariff on all goods shipped to the U.S. The tariff will be increased to 25% from June 1, 2026.

“This tariff will be due and payable until such time as a deal is reached for the complete and total purchase of Greenland,” Trump affirmed.

Trump accused the governments supporting Greenland of playing a “very dangerous game,” saying their actions “have put a level of risk in play that is not sustainable.”

To protect global peace and security, it is imperative that strong measures are taken to end the “potentially perilous situation,” the President said.

Trump added that the U.S. has been trying to effect his latest action for over 150 years. “Many Presidents have tried, and for good reason, but Denmark has always refused,” he wrote.
