Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has condemned what it described as an inappropriate and hostile message issued by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to mark the birthday of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party criticised the ADC for what it termed a display of bitterness and political intolerance, especially at a time it said called for goodwill and civility.

The Lagos APC said the opposition party’s action reflects internal challenges and a lack of direction, accusing it of abandoning constructive engagement.

The statement referenced the conduct of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) during the recent personal loss of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, noting that it demonstrated empathy and respect despite ongoing legal processes.

According to the APC, the ADC’s approach stands in contrast to such examples of civility and highlights what it described as a decline in political maturity within the opposition.

The party further argued that Nigerians deserve a more organised and responsible opposition capable of offering credible alternatives, rather than engaging in what it called unproductive attacks.

It urged the ADC to focus on strengthening its internal structure and repositioning itself as a functional political platform.

The Lagos APC reiterated its commitment to governance and party discipline, stating that it remains focused on delivering its mandate while dismissing what it described as distractions from opposition parties.

The statement reads: “The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) strongly condemns the disgraceful and toxic outburst by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in what it shamefully attempted to pass off as a birthday message to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“At a time when basic human decency demands restraint and goodwill, the ADC chose the low road of bitterness and petty political hostility. This conduct is not only irresponsible; it is a stark admission of an opposition in deep crisis-rudderless, frustrated, and clearly overwhelmed by its own irrelevance.

“For context, Nigerians need only recall the dignified and empathetic disposition shown by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in responding to the personal loss of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, even while he was still undergoing criminal trial.

“That moment demonstrated that even in the face of serious institutional processes, civility, humanity, and respect must never be discarded.

“The ADC’s conduct stands in sharp and embarrassing contrast. It reveals a political platform that has abandoned all pretence of maturity and is now fully consumed by desperation and hopelessness.

“When a party cannot distinguish between legitimate opposition and sheer recklessness, it forfeits any claim to seriousness.”
