Troops of the Nigerian Army have intensified security monitoring along the Kano–Zaria Highway as members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, commenced their annual religious procession in Kaduna State.

The development was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the report, troops of the 4 Demonstration Battalion began monitoring the procession at about 7:30am. on August 2 after observing a large number of IMN members moving along the Kano–Kaduna Expressway within Makarfi Local Government Area towards Zaria.

Makama reported that about 1,000 IMN members were seen trekking along the left side of the highway while carrying their personal belongings as part of the annual exercise.

“About 1,000 participants were seen trekking on the left side of the highway while carrying their personal luggage,” the report stated.

According to the report, the annual procession is expected to continue until August 9, with security agencies maintaining surveillance and deploying personnel along the route to ensure public safety, manage traffic flow and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Makama added that, as of the time the report was filed, the procession was progressing peacefully without any reported security incident.

The report noted that security agencies have maintained a visible presence along major routes in Kaduna State to ensure the annual procession proceeds peacefully without disrupting public order.
