Students of ICT Adegbenro Polytechnic, located along the Wasinmi–Itori axis in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Tuesday protested over the killing of an HND 2 Marketing student during an armed robbery attack in the Eruku area of the institution.

The students alleged that they are frequently robbed on their way to and from school, demanding urgent intervention from the Ogun State Government and security agencies.

DAILY POST reports that the students staged the protest by blocking the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and paralyzing traffic leaving commuters and motorists stranded for several hours.

They alleged that during the overnight attack, a female final-year student was reportedly killed, while several other students sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.

According to them, the attacks by criminals have become a recurring nightmare in the area, lamenting that repeated appeals for improved security yielded no result.

Responding to the incident, the institution in a statement signed by the Chairman, Timetable, Examination and Academic Calendar Committee, Gideon Adekunle, announced the postponement of examinations scheduled for Tuesday July 28th and Wednesday July 29th.

Asekunle said the it is to honour the deceased and ensure that students in the affected area regain mental stability and composure.

The statement reads, “Following an unfortunate event that occurred over the night, which resulted in the loss of a student and another terribly injured in a robbery incident at Eruku, the exams schedules for today Tuesday July 28th and tomorrow Wednesday July 29th are hereby postponed.

“This is to make sure students in the area affected are able to regain their composure and mental stability, and most importantly in honour of the deceased.

“Exams continue on Friday July 30, 2026 as scheduled on the timetable. The new schedule for the postponed exams will be communicated in due course.”

When contacted, the SUG president of the institution, Comrade Owoigbe Blessing, said, “It happened in the midnight. One of the final year student from HND 2 Marking got killed, another female student got injured, they cut her ear and another guy that is at FMC at the moment was shot.

“Please we need full support of the government, there’s no security. If there was security this wouldn’t happen to this extent, this is not the first, second or even the third time such is happening at Eruku.”

NANS Chairman in  Ogun State, Comrade Olabode Faruq Success, in an interview decried the high rate of insecurity in campuses across the state.

Success urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to enforce security across all campuses and environs, asserting that no student should lose their lives while pursuing education.

“The rate of insecurity in our campus is increasing day by day, it’s across all campuses in Ogun state and we are passing a message across to the statement governor and other security agencies in the state that the insecurity across all our campuses must come to an end.

“Over night a student of D.S Adegbenro polytechnic was shot dead and others have been hospitalized. A female final year student that was supposed to sign out tomorrow was shot dead to her face over the night.

“Our direct message to the government is that they should enforce security across all campuses and its environment in the state. Ilaro also reported a case last week, the government should enforce maximum security across our campuses. There should be a patrol post for police and other local vigilantes across our campuses and surrounding environment.

“This hostel that was attack is just behind the school,” the Ogun NANS leader told DAILY POST.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, told DAILY POST that officers of the command are on ground and the protest is peaceful.

“Our officers are present and speaking with the students. I can confirm the protest is peaceful,” he said.
