Yoruba Community Association Emphasizes Family Stability in Canadian Settlement Webinar

The Yoruba Community Association in Toronto, within the Greater Toronto Area, recently underscored the critical role of family unity in successful settlement and integration in Canada during a well-attended webinar. The virtual event drew participants and dignitaries from across the globe.

The guest speaker, Lady Evangelist (Dr.) Eyitayo Dada, highlighted the importance of conflict resolution in marriage, stressing patience, understanding, and love as essential tools for sustaining healthy relationships. Drawing from her extensive experience, she shared practical insights and real-life examples.

The webinar, themed “Family Settlement in Canada,” brought together respected professionals and community leaders, including Pastor Dr. (Engr.) Dele Dada, Dr. Gabriel Ogundele, President of the Nigerian Canadian Association, Mr. Kenny Bazuaye, and several other distinguished guests. Discussions centered on the social, cultural, and economic challenges faced by immigrant families, particularly Nigerians in the diaspora.

A key takeaway from the session was the importance of maintaining marital stability. Speakers noted that separation or divorce can have far-reaching consequences, especially for children, often leading to emotional, psychological, and developmental challenges that may affect their academic performance and social integration. Participants agreed that a strong family structure provides children with a sense of security and continuity, which is especially vital when adapting to a new cultural environment.

The association encouraged couples to prioritize communication, mutual support, and effective conflict resolution as essential strategies for building and sustaining healthy families. Mr. Michael Kehinde Abiodun, President of the Yoruba Community Association in Toronto, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting families through education, mentorship, and community-based initiatives, particularly for new immigrants.

The event concluded with a call for ongoing dialogue and collaboration among Nigerian communities worldwide, emphasizing that strong families are the foundation of resilient and thriving diaspora communities.
Moderators Mr. Ayo Sanni, Mr Nelson Oluwọle Akinkugbe and Ms. Kemi Amusan (Lady Kay) also shared valuable insights. Mr. Sanni emphasized the importance of adapting to new cultural environments. The chairman of the Affiliate Presidents; Mr Nelson Oluwọle Akinkugbe emphasized on the need for the new immigrants to know about financial planning, job hunting and using all resources to navigate the system legitimately. Ms. Kemi Amusan (Lady Kay) encouraged couples to practice patience and tolerance in navigating the demands of a changing world.

In her closing remarks, Lady Evangelist (Dr.) Eyitayo Dada, commended the Yoruba Community Association for organizing impactful seminars that support community members.

The President, in his vote of thanks, announced that May 17, 2026 is the next Monthly Meeting of the Association and another webinar is scheduled for June 2026 while July 4, 2026 is the Yoruba Community Association Annual Picnic at G Ross Lord Park, 4801 Dufferin St, North York, ON M3H Toronto. Area 1 & 2.
