The Yoruba Community Association (YCA) Toronto GTA is pleased to announce a timely and important webinar titled* “Community Action Against Insecurity: Strengthening Safety, Unity, and Collective Responsibility in Nigeria.” *The virtual event will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, bringing together distinguished security experts, government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and, Nigerians in diaspora to discuss practical solutions to Nigeria’s growing security challenges.
Among the expected keynote speakers are General Christopher Gwabin Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, senior representatives of Nigeria’s security establishment, including The Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice; Dr. Kayode Ajulo; a Nigerian-Canadian Toronto Police officer; Sgt Bassey Osagie, respected traditional rulers, security analysts, and community stakeholders. The webinar aims to provide insights into the current security situation in Nigeria and explore how communities can partner with security agencies to promote peace and stability.

Nigeria’s Security Challenges Demand Collective Action
Across many parts of Nigeria, insecurity continues to threaten lives, livelihoods, and economic development. Communities are grappling with the activities of bandits, kidnappers, armed gangs, violent extremists, and various criminal elements whose operations have created fear and uncertainty among citizens.
Religious intolerance, socio-political tensions, and extremist ideologies have further complicated the security landscape. In many regions, innocent citizens face daily threats from criminal networks engaged in kidnapping for ransom and other illicit activities.
Particularly troubling is the growing trend of kidnappers demanding not only cash ransoms but also food supplies, motorcycles, hard drugs, and other materials as conditions for releasing victims. Recent reports of kidnappings and criminal attacks across parts of South-West Nigeria have heightened concerns among residents and stakeholders who seek urgent and sustainable solutions to these challenges.
The webinar will examine these issues and discuss the role of communities, traditional institutions, security agencies, government authorities, and diaspora organizations in combating insecurity and fostering safer environment.

    Leadership and Community Engagement
The Yoruba Community Association Toronto GTA continues to demonstrate its commitment to community development, civic engagement, and the welfare of Nigerians at home and abroad.
The Association is currently led by Mr. Michael Kehinde Abiodun, Interim President, whose dedication and vision have helped strengthen community participation and advocacy initiatives. Supporting him is Mr. Ayo Sanni, General Secretary, who has played a significant role in coordinating the Association’s activities and outreach programs.
Also providing strategic leadership is Mr. Nelson Oluwole Akinkugbe, Chairperson of all Affiliate Presidents of the Yoruba Community Association, whose efforts have enhanced collaboration among affiliated Yoruba organizations across the Greater Toronto Area.
Community members have commended Mama Lydia Adekolu for her commitment to fostering unity, cultural preservation, civic responsibility, and meaningful dialogue on issues affecting Nigerians both at home and in the diaspora.

The Yoruba Community Association (YCA’s) foundation is strengthened by the board chairman, Chief Tunde Olagundoye, the Former President of Yoruba Community Association, Chief Mrs Omisola Olubunmi, and Dr Ola Kasim The Patron of The Association. They play a vital role in ensuring the continuity of the Association’s valuable programs, serving as the driving force behind YCA’s success.

Yoruba Community Association Toronto is inviting you to a scheduled Seminar.
